Introduction of Giribawa Divisional Secretariat
There is an opinion that this area was known as Giriba Rattaya in History. Giriba Rattaya was a provincial area in the southern country. It is mentioned in the Mahavamsa that the general of King Parakrama built a long and strong bridge across Kala Oya and crossed to Angamu on the opposite bank. Kavantissa, the son-in-law of the king of Kelaniya, who was the husband of Soma Devi, a sister of King Kavanthissa, was sent to live in Giri, where Giri Abhaya reigned. The inscriptions and historical artifacts in the area confirm the above information.
This Giribawa Divisional Secretariat Division is located towards the northern border of the North-West Province where Kurunegala is an end town with a temperature of 30-35 degrees Celsius and there is normal rain during October-December. In terms of the district, in Kurunegala district which has 30 divisional secretarial divisions, No. 01 Grama Niladhari Domain, which is the farthest from Kurunegala, is also located in this division.
